The George and Dragon Pub - Dog Friendly Pub in Dartmouth

The once tired and neglected George & Dragon pub in Dartmouth has now undergone a major transformation and redevelopment into a new “Destination Venue”. This new attraction in Dartmouth includes a huge new Main Bars plus a seasonal Garden Bar, a Coffee and All-Homemade Cake Shop, the unique - Boat Room Restaurant and a fabulous paved Beer Garden for alfresco dining (the only Beer Garden in Dartmouth!). We also have plenty of stainless steel Dog Bowls with fresh water, plus tasty treats for our canine friends behind the bar too (with owners permission of course!)

At the new George & Dragon we invite you to come and see the ‘Tardis-like’ venue that we have created. We have tried to blend old and new, retaining original features where we could and creating new seating and dining areas where you can 'Dine with the Dragons', or enjoy a sumptuous meal in our new Boat Room Restaurant that is uniquely and individually decorated with hand-drawn Wall-Art of ships from all ages on the River Dart and in Dartmouth Harbour, by talented Local Artist Paul Barclay. You can also enjoy our own blend of coffee and homemade cakes, or cream teas with homemade scones from our Coffee & Dessert Bars, or of course, simply have drinks and relax in the Bars or our Beer Garden.

We have the ONLY BEER GARDEN IN DARTMOUTH, where customers and their 4-legged friends can enjoy the sunshine, or rest in the shade of our Giant Umbrellas and Rising Screen windbreaks to enjoy our refreshments.

Dogs welcome

The George and Dragon has been a Public House for nearly 200 years and was originally situated next to a line of Shipbuilders, now Marks & Spencer's food store & flats, along what was the foreshore and is now Mayors Avenue and the reclaimed land forms the Main Town Car Park. Dartmouth once rivalled Plymouth and Portsmouth in importance for both shipbuilding and as a South Coast Naval base. Our sun-trap garden wall is the last remaining visible evidence of this industry and the original stone buildings adjacent to our premises.

Whether you are joining us for our own-blend coffee and one of Leigh's homemade cakes, a glass of wine with lunch, an afternoon Cream Tea, a relaxing Evening Dinner, or just a relaxing drink – You are always assured of a warm welcome from our friendly staff at The George & Dragon. Check out the Food and Service Times at the G&D on our website or give us a call, as they naturally vary through the year.

Why not bring the family to 'Dine with the Dragons' too? Well-behaved children and dogs on a lead are very welcome and will be made to feel very much at home. We're sure the kids will find something yummy on our Homemade Children’s Menu (all homemade homemade from Country Meats, Local Line-caught Fish and Seasonal Local Vegetables wherever possible - with no ghastly reconstituted 'nuggets' or processed and reformed 'fingers' whatsoever!), plus there is always fresh water for your dog inside and out - and usually a tasty treat from behind the bar – with your permission of course! (Note: Dogs are only not allowed in our upstairs Boat Room Restaurant (as stipulated by the EHO) and except for guide dogs of course.

We look forward to serving you and your friends and family here at the new George & Dragon very soon.

Reviews

“Friendly and welcoming staff an premises. Visited with friends in summer - we all had different meals (and dessert) - without exception we all eat well at a fair price. Quality ingredients shone through. We are returning to the area just after Christmas and will return with the dogs. Thanks.”
